Team Leader: Toshifumi Nomura,
The main goal of my team is to understand pathomechanism underlying hereditary skin diseases and to develop novel treatments for such diseases. The team has been focusing on two specific disorders: ichthyosis and keratoderma. We have five members: three graduate course students Mr. Suzuki and Drs. Ohguchi and Miyauchi; one research assistant Ms. Takeda; and me. The fundamental philosophy of the team is to do research that can answer clinically important but as-yet unsolved questions. Indeed, all ongoing projects start with the careful analysis of a specimen from a patient who was referred to the Hokkaido University Hospital by doctors from various other institutions.
The time passes so quickly. It’s already been six years since I returned from Scotland and estab-lished the research team. During those six years, the research environment has been fully developed and the team has gained an excellent lineup. The time is ripe for action. This year, we will put all efforts into publishing our research works in high-rank journals. I’d like to ask the readers for their continued support of our laboratory.
